====== PATH ======

The **Practical Accessible Transport Highway** (originally known as **Practical Although Treacherous Highway**) is a highway system originally created by the organisation [[NICO|NICO]] in an effort to connect the various [[spawn_spot|settlements]] of [[NewSpawn Reborn|NewSpawn Reborn]]. It can currently be divided into two parts, and three layers: The Old PATH, consisting of the Lower Layer, a railroad intended for minecart travel, the Upper Layer, which was originally made for horse travel, though it is also often used for ice-boat travel, and the New PATH, which combines both aspects of the Old PATH and can be used for minecart and ice-boat travel.

==== Creation by NICO ====

Before the path was constructed, there were three portals: [[Pueblo del Rio|Pueblo del Rio]], [[LavaLand|LavaLand]], and [[Efrafa|Efrafa]], all loosely connected by roads.

[[Jazuri|Jazuri]] decided to build a more sophisticated system to connect the settlements in the Nether, inviting [[Th3sad0ne|Th3sad0ne]] because they had a fortune pickaxe and Jazuri planned to include Quartz in the design, and [[GamerGeeked|GamerGeeked]] wanted to join in.

At the time, early preparations for a Nether City were made, but it had been decided to no longer be built there, since it was at the same level as the PATH.

Th3sad0ne was the first to establish the name “Highway” to describe the PATH, named after the Highways in [[https://www.reddit.com/r/2b2t/|2b2t]]. The trio of GamerGeeked, Th3sad0ne, and Jazuri constructed the foundation for the PATH, what is now known as the Upper Layer. The design for the Upper Layer was established by GamerGeeked, using cobblestone and stone brick. GamerGeeked had the idea of making the PATH officially maintained by a player group together with Th3sad0ne. They named this player group NICO.

[[Infernal_|Infernal_]] came up with the acronym for the PATH, and has become the unofficial marketer of NICO.

==== Expansion ====

As the number of spawns increased and members of NICO grew inactive, the Upper Layer of the PATH was expanded by other players, mainly [[Pinkyxpert|Pinkyxpert]], to continue connecting each spawn. Blackstone was initially used for the expansion, though this was then changed to a combination of basalt, stone brick, and prismarine, both for the sake of convenience as these were all easily gathered from the various farms and generators across the server, and to add more colour to the otherwise monotone-grey structure.

Roads of packed ice were also added to parts of the Upper Layer to facilitate travel by ice-boating.

For ease of navigation, the connected spawns were categorised into four directions, beginning from an intersection where these directions met: the North, South, East, and West Wing. This intersection then came to be known as the PATH Hub, and later the Old PATH Hub.

A Nether Market was established by another group of players above the Upper Layer, though it rarely sees use.

The creation of a New PATH was spearheaded by [[CrazyBandit|CrazyBandit]], who wanted to give players a nicer-looking PATH. Beginning with the construction of the New PATH Hub, built by CrazyBandit with the help of [[ZRay0823|ZRay0823]], [[TOBIstupid|TOBIstupid]], and Pinkyxpert. The New PATH is located directly above the Old PATH and Nether Market, and is accessible from the Upper Layer, initially through scaffolding, and now from a minecart elevator. The construction of the New PATH is, however, still in progress, and the Old PATH is still used for accessing the majority of spawns.

The New PATH combines both features of the Old PATH layers; including a railroad for minecart travel, roads of blue ice for boat travel, as well as additional features like buttons for spawn-proofing. The design incorporates prismarine and warped wood.
